Chapter One A gun was fired. The crowd outside Buckingham
Palace waiting for the royal family to come out spread like ants about to be trampled on by a large tennis shoe. "Get down!"
Charles ordered his sons. He protected Harry with his body. More shots were heard. "Are you all right Your Highness?
Are you all right Your Highness?"the guard nearest to William asked. William lay low to the ground huddling next to the
automoble they were using for protection. "I'm fine," he expressed but he was shaking. He looked at Harry and his father who
were a distance away. He wanted to be with them. He broke into a run. "You stay where you are!" Charles screamed. William
didn't listen he ran to them. Out in the open. In the line of fire. He was going to get himself killed! Charles thought.
"Stay here," he ordered Harry. Harry nodded. Charles ran to get his son while a miniature war was breaking out in front
of the palace. "Freeze," they heard a voice yell. "I have my gun aimed at William of Wales."A gun was aimed at William. "Hold
your fire!" and order was called. Charles looked at his son. A lot of curse words ran through his mind. William looked
at his father in apology. The gunman had a manical smile on his face. "You fools!" he laughed. He fired the gun. William
say the bullet coming. To his surprise and eveyone else's it stopped inches from his heart and fell too the ground. "What
the-" the gun man cursed. He fired again and again. The bullets stopped inches away from the prince and fell harmlessly
on the ground. "What the **** happened?" the gunman screamed as handcuffs were placed on him and he and his team were taken
away. Charles came over to his William. He held his head to his chest. "Don't you ever do that again. Don't you ever do
that again!" Tears ran down his face as he hugged him tightly. "I'm sorry Papa," William said. He hugged him back then
pulled away. "You're kinda squishing my face." Charles let out a soft laugh. "You're grounded." Harry came over. "Talk
about stupid William!"he yelled, but the smile on his face showed that he was gald his brother was all right. Charles scanned
the crowd that was breaking up. Several people were talking to officers. News people had shown up. He looked at the bullets
on the street. They looked normal to him. Then why did they stop inches away from William? An officer took them from his
hands and placed them in a zip-lock bag. "For evidence," was the unecessary explanation. Charles looked around. He then
spotted a girl. she was at a cafe drinking hot chocolate from a mug. To anyone else she might've look like just a casula observer.
But Charles knew better. How could one be so casual after witnesing what had just occured? He walked over to her.
Michelle
Jameson stirred her hot chocolate which was no longer hot but ice-cold. "Excuse me, my lady?" a voice caused her to look
up. Michelle stood up. "Your Highness," she curtsied formally to Charles. "We'd like to be alone," Charles told hid
guards. They obeyed and kept their distance. "What did you just do?" Charles asked. Michelle gave a short laugh.
"I have no idae what your talking about there." "Out there," Charles gestured to the street. "You had something to do with
that." "If you're accusinhg me of having a part in the shooting I-" "I'm not accusing you of being with that bad company.
I'm saying you had something to do with saving my son's life." Michelle looked into the future king's eyes. Should she
tell him. "I did nothing." she said. She stood up to leave. PRince Charles tried to get up but an unseen force kept him
oin his chair. "What was that all about, Your Highness?" a guard came up to ask. Charles shook his head. in his mind
replayed the scened where the bulets fell. "Call our contacts," he ordered. "I want to know where this girl lives."
Chapter
Two Michelle sat in her room. She took a book off her shelf. Not with her hands but with her mind. She opened to a page
that was already dog-eared from too much use. She had memorized the words but she still needed to see it in print. Telekinises-
mind over matter. The ability to move things with the mind. Michlle closed the book and sighed. She placed it on the nearby
desk and went up to her room to sleep. Saving William had taken a lot out of her.
A folder was placed on Charles desk
that afternoon. "Her name is Michelle Jameson. She's in Queen Mary's Orphanage. Sixteen years of age. She's been staying there
since she was eight when her parents died in a fire." Charles looked over the folder's contents carefully. Sometimes reading
a page twice. When satisfied he closed it. "Cancel my appointments," he told his secretary, grabbing his coat. "I have to
see someone about the safety of England."
"Your Highness," an elderly nun, opened the front of the door. "Hello,
Sister," Charles greeted. "Come in. Come in," the nun, urged him and his guards. "I'm sorry to drop in unexpected like
this."he apologized. "Nonsense. Nonsense. After the Charity Ball you've hosted to raise funds to save thsi palce from closing
down. My girls and me wouldn't mind a bit." They all sat down in the make-shift family room at the lobby. "Actually
it's one of your girls I want to talk to you about. A Michelle Jameson. Is she here?" Charles asked. "Michelle? Well, it's
hard to tell. She's not one of those noisy girls whose chatter always gives you some clue that they're here. Sometimes she
goes out without telling anyone. Very quiet girl. Sort of a recluse actually. Living in her own private world. I'll go check."
the nun went up the stairs. She knocked at a door. "Michelle dear. Prince Charles is here to see you." Michelle knew this.
She had been listening to the whole conversation. "I don't want to see him!" Charles raised an eyebrow at his guards. Quiet? "But
Michelle it's His Royal Highness." "I don't give a care!" Charles went over to the door. "Let me try," he cleared his
throat. "Michelle?" Silence. He turned the knob and opened the dooor. He went into the room. there were rows and rows
of beds but only one of them was occupied at the moment. "Where is eveyone?" he asked at an attempt to let her open up. "They're
at class?" "Hmmm. Well, why aren't you at class?" "They have nothing left to teach me." Michelle replied. "Does the
term telekinisis scare you?" he asked suddenly. Michille glared at him. Then turned away. "I don't know what you mean." "I
think you do. I'm probably the only person who realizes the power you have. It's not on your public or private records. The
nuns and the other girls here seem to unknowing of it." he sighed. He waited till she stopped fidgeting and gave him her attention.
"I saw those bullets fall. I felt it when you wouldn't let me get out of that chair earlier that day. With your special power
you can protect my sons better than anyone else can. You've already proven it. In short. I'd like to entrust the security
of my sons in your hands. Or in this case your mind." Michelle was silent. Charles reached over to touche her hand.
Michelle wouldn't let him. He let his hand drop. 'i know what you're dealing with." "No, Your Highness," she told
him softly. "You know nothing about what I'm dealing with."
Chapter Three A few days later there was a knock at
the orphanage door. Michelle opened it. Prince William was there. Michelle raised her eyes to the sky. "Sure Charles
send your hunky son to tempt me." Behind her girls were giggling. "Hush up!" Michelle ordered. William gave her a
shy smile. "Um, may I come in." Harry came bounding up the front steps. "Sorry. Got kind of tied up back there." "And
the cute son," Michelle drawled. More giggles came behind her. Michelle silenced the girls with a look. She sighed
and let the princes in. "Is there someplace we can be alone?" "The garden," Michelle said leading them there. "Would
you like some tea?" she asked in formal English hospitality. There was a set in the middle of the coffee table. William
and Harry shook their heads Michelle poured a cup for herself. "Where are your guards?" she asked. "From what Father
tells us your better equipped to save us than they are," Harry said"And better equipped to harm," Michelle murmured. the boys
didn't hear her. She set the cup down without taking a sip. "The answer is still no," she told them. William and Harry
looked at each other. "You saved my life yesterday," William stated. "If you came here to thank me I would graciously
accept it. But you're asking for more. I have to decline." William thought about this for a moment. "Actually, I would
like some tea." He got the pot and poured. He lifted the cup to his lips. Without warning he splashed it on his white shirt. "What!"
Michelle suspended the liquid in mid air. She placed it back in the cup. "You won't even let tea spill on me," William
said almost to himself. She glared at him, breathing heavily. Her eyes met Harry's. "Don't play with this," she told them.
"You don't know what you're dealing with." "What do you plan to do when you turn eighteen?" William asked. "Why?" "My
father is offering you a carrer plan with all the fringe benefits. When you turn eighteen you'll no longer be considered an
orphan, outgrowing the system. You'll need a job. Why not get a head start?" "I'm going to become a nun," Michelle told
him. A snicker escaped Harry. He cleared his throat. "Sorry." "You can't help anyone with your power in that position."
William said. I can't hurt anyone either, she thought. She said nothing. "How well do you know your power?" William
kept on interrogating. "Have you tried it on all types of matter? Have you tapped its potential?" "You wouldn't want to
know," Michelle told him. "Because if you're willing to accept the offer there are scientists willing to study you. My
father will see to it. Help you control it if you can." It was very tempting. To help her control it. How she wished she
knew how to master it. So disasters won't happen. Disasters... Bullets flew threw the air. "Get down!" Michelle shouted
instinctively. Force flew out of her pushing the princes to the ground. Concentrating hard, she managed to stop the bullets.
She let them drop to the floor. "Your Highnesses are you all right?" an electronic voice asked. William took out a small
hidden mike. "We're fine. She did excatly what she was supposed to."He looked at Michelle. "You're very good." he praised. "And
what if I missed!" she hissed at him. He took her hand a placed a bullet in it. "They're blanks." She shrugged him
off. "And you didn't miss." For now... the words died in her throat. William let go. "How about we give it a month's
trial? No strings attached." Michelle gave no answer.
Chapter Four The car pulled up to St. James Palace. Charles
was there to greet her. "Good morning, my dear." Michelle looked at the respected building as the wind blew through her
hair. "I'm glad you reconsidered," Charles said, shaking her hand as the servants brought her luggage into the house. "A
month," Michelle reminded him of their agreement. "That is all." She entered the house. "Here is your room," Charles directed.
"It's right near William's. Harry's is right next to his. I'm further down the hall." A boy about William's age approached
them. "This is Drew Winslow," Charles introduced. Michelle shook his hand. "William's best friend," she repeated what
she read in the latest magazines. The boy gave her a wry smile. "Prince William's bodyguard disguised as his best friend,"
he corrected in a low voice. "Oh." the word revealed nothing. "But we are good friends," he informed. "Show her around,
will you Drew?" Prince Charles asked. "Certainly, Your Highness." Drew offered Michelle his arm which she did not take.
he shrugged and led her down the hall. "You're probably going to have some kind of disguise too. Maybe my girlfriend so
I'll be able to watch you the first week at how well you can protect William. If you're competent we'll gradually form your
image into William's girlfriend so you can protect him solo." "And what if he get's married?" Michelle asked. "You'll
probably be a close family friend always invited to the public outings. This-," Drew gestured to the big windows the carpeted
hallway, the decorated halls- "This is St. James Palace as everyone else sees it." he gestured. "You're going to see St. James
as it really is." Drew opened a hidden door. They went down a dark stairway nad then down another hallway. "Okay, I'm going
to tell you the basic codes we use to communicate with William and Harry. One: the wave. If he, william or Harry either one,
screws a lightbulb the royal way, he's fine. No problem. If he raises his hand up all four fingers and thumb close together
it means: No danger but I'm uncomfortable. Get me out of here. If he raises his hand four fingers slightly apart it means
I sense danger. Get help pronto." "Pronto," Michelle echoed just to show she was listening. "Next is the handshake,"
Drew informed. "If he shakes your hand in the regular way; no problem. If he shakes your hand with one finger touching your
wrist it means: I'm paranoid with the person on my right. Two fingers on your wrist; I'm paranoid with the person on my left.
If he places his pinky finger between between your middle finger and your pointer finger means. I'm plain paranoid. Get me
out." "Pinky finger between middle finger and pointer finger." Michelle repeated. "Great. You're all set for the first
week," Drew told her. He opened the door at the end of the hall. Michelle stepped inside. The room was filled with wall
to wall computers. Hundreds men and women were running around looking at clipboards maps or just plain going crazy. "This
is the entire Royal Family's surviellence team." Drew informed. Michelle breathed. "By George. I've entered a James Bond
film."
Prince William and Prince Harry followed their father underground. William kept his thoughts to himself.
Telekinises? His father believed such a thing existed? he didn't. He couldn't explain how he was saved the other day. or described
the force the pushed him to the ground when he was at the orphanage. Luck, maybe. Coincidence? But not telekinises. No such
thing existed. "Have you shown her everything, Drew?" Charles asked. "Just about," Drew replied. William noticed
Michelle looking at him and he gave her a smile. She looked away. "Michelle, I'd like to intoduce you Dr. Thomas," Charles
said. "He'll be the scientist who'll be helping you out while you're here." "So this is the girl," A man with thinning
gray hair and in a white lab coat came up to them. He stuck his hand out. Michelle ignored it. "I have a name," she informed. William
silently applauded. He hated it when people gave him the once over and said, 'so this is the prince.' Michelle glared at
the scientist as he circled her. She didn't like the way he seemed to look at her as if she were just a mere amoeba under
a microscope to be observed. "How strong is your power?" the doctor asked immediately. "Am I on your time?" Michelle
asked. The doctor lowered his wireless glasses. "Excuse me?" "I refuse to answer any questions pertaining to my telekinitic
ability unless its at the required time," Michelle informed. "Well, eventually, you'll be answering the questions anyway
so I don't see why-" Michele cut him off. "Is it the required time?" she repeated. The doctor sighed. "No." "Then
I refuse to answer." Dr. Thomas looked at her. Michelle held her head up. Charles could sense the tension in the
air. "Well, it's been a long day. Drew, why don't you escort Michelle back up to her room. Boys, come with me. They want you
to try out these new tracking devices." "How small are these ones going to be?" Harry asked. "The last one I almost lost." Michelle
followed Drew. he converssation behind her dying in her ears. A softball was thrown at her. Michelle turned around
and caught the ball in her hands. She turned to the princes and to Drew who obviously had anticipated what she might've done.
"Do you guys have a hearing disability? This power should not be messed with!" "Did you have telepathy as well? Did you
read my thoughts? That I was going to throw the ball at you?" Dr. Thomas asked excitedly. "I saw the ball coming from the
corner of my eye." She threw the ball in his face. "Why didn't you stop it with your power? Do you have to ration it?" Michelle
looked at Charles and pointed at nthe scientist. "This is exactly why I didn't want to do this in the first place.
I'm leaving." William ran after her. "Don't go..." he asked her. Michelle looked at his intruding hand on her wrist. Dr.
Thompson whispered to Charles. "This girl's power is less than crude. I t doesn't have the sophistication or the intensity
to fill out your needs-" "But you saw the news how it saved-" "It's a useless thing-" The sentence was everything
but a direct challenge. Bracing herself, Michelle let go of the power. The lights flashed on and off around the room. Everyone
stood in thier place too stunned to be impressed. The electronic voice of the computer boomed overhead. "Password Change.
Approved. Password Change. Approved." Drew moved from his spot. He got to the nearest computer and tapped a few keys. "She's
changing all the passwords to the systems!" One of the most complictaed ccomputer systems in the world and she was breaking
codes in a matter of seconds! Michelle looked at the scientist in the eye. She arched an eyebrow. Crude, huh? The lights
stopped flickering. "All system's restored" the electrnic voice reported. Everyone stared at Michelle. "Don't underestimate
this. It'll be the biggest mistake you'll make," and she left.
